About Us
Salmon Enterprises of Tasmania Pty Ltd (SALTAS) is one of Tasmania’s major producers of eggs and smolts for the Tasmanian Atlantic salmon farming industry. SALTAS is a registered Research Service Provider specialising in facilitating selective breeding services for the Tasmanian salmon farming industry through its Selective Breeding Program (SBP).

Environmental compliance, Accreditations and Acknowledgment
We are a company that prides ourselves on our commitment to looking after the environment and the health of the river eco-systems we have the privilege of using.
Our Hatchery is fully accredited with Global Gap and ASC standards, and we are working closely with the Tasmanian Environmental Protection Authority to maintain thorough monitoring and management plans to understand and minimise any potential impact. We are continuously working to improve our systems to ensure we meet the highest environmental standards and look after the precious waterways we depend on.

We acknowledge the Tasmanian Aboriginal community as the continuing custodians of Lutruwita/Tasmania and honour Aboriginal Elders past and present.
Selective Breeding Program
Atlantic salmon farming has been a cornerstone of Tasmania's agricultural industry since 1984. Our industry began with foundation stocks descended from fish imported from the east coast of Canada in the 1960s. Over the first 20 years, six generations of Tasmanian Atlantic salmon were bred to maintain genetic diversity. In 2004, we embarked on an innovative journey by launching our unique and award winning selective breeding program.
